Cultural Events Community Events About Us
Who We AreConcilio Hispano, Inc. is a non-profit human service organization founded in 1969 by Latinos who wanted to improve conditions in their community. Today, still managed by Latinos, we continue to make an impact on the lives of Latinos by offering a wide range of support programs throughout the greater Boston area. With sites in Cambridge, Somerville, and Chelsea, and outreach programs that extend as far north as Lawrence and as far west as Framingham, we serve more than 3,000 clients each year. What We DoOur network of integrated programs includes education, information & referral, interpreting & translation, health, family, and youth. We reach out to a diverse Latino population whose access to services is impeded by language barriers, discrimination, poverty, underemployment, substance abuse, limited education, or disability. Concilio Hispano is the only agency in Somerville, and one of only two agencies in Cambridge, in which Latinos are the primary providers of services for other Latinos. Our Mission StatementConcilio Hispano is dedicated to social change, economic health and self-sufficiency, and the promotion of democratic participation. We are committed to fostering the culture, self-identify and advancement of Latinos and other minorities in the greater Boston area. We work with Concilio's communities through innovative methods of collaboration in education, prevention, intervention, rehabilitation, and community organizing. Our StaffOur bilingual and bicultural staff members represent the Latino communities we serve, ensuring a culturally appropriate, individual and family focused service. We are proud to have great diversity among the co-workers at Concilio, including Chilean, Mexican, Colombian, Dominican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Salvadorean and Ecuadorean.

"In 1959 we organized Concilio (before it was incorporated in 1969). We would meet at a church. Members from the community were chosen as representatives. The community would come to meetings and people would talk about the issues that concerned them." Roberto
